Job Description
Area Superintendent

Sargon is a family-owned company specializing in masonry, stone and steel construction. Sargon Masonry Construction is a full-service land development and commercial masonry contractor specializing in perimeter fencing, retaining walls, masonry structures, entry monuments, footings and many other various design-build retaining wall systems.

The Area Superintendent role is responsible for partnering with the Project Managers on all construction projects and to oversee all phases of a construction project from initial planning to completion. This role will coordinate all work activities with Field Superintendents to ensure productivity and to eliminate conflicts in the field and promote positive employee relations with all employees and management by treating all employees with dignity and respect. This position reports directly to the Land Development Division Manager and works closely with the Project Managers and Field
Superintendents.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Communication - All communication at all levels in all interactions are professional, timely and clear.

  • Manage - Manage, Prioritize, document and schedule all aspects of the job including employees, equipment, materials and sub-contractors from project handoff to finish communicating progress.

  • Safety & Risk - Implement Safety & Risk Management (Injury & Illness Prevention Program) to mitigate job site hazards.

  • Build - To build per plan with highest Sargon quality standards.

  • Close Out - Critical close out of job sites to ensure Sargon quality standards and timely billing of retention and the entire scope of work is complete.

Primary Scope Responsible For:

  • Land Development: o Assisting with Project Management in controlling costs and maintaining profitability on all construction projects. o Conduct regular inspections of work and quality as well as ensure installation is per specification. o Ensure Superintendent team schedules crews and required equipment according to current project schedules and priorities. o Ensuring Superintendents are ordering material based on workflow areas and priority areas from preconstruction meeting. o Monitor timely delivery of necessary materials and equipment as needed to ensure continued productivity and communicate with Project Management. o Assisting Superintendents with the proper management of crews based on production needs and project priorities. o Ensuring Superintendents account for material supply chain issues when ordering materials and allow for enough time to secure required materials. o Examine drawings and specifications for various work tasks and ensure current information is communicated to Superintendents.

o Recognizing, documenting, and reporting construction delays consistently with Client and all Sargon team members. o Coordinating with superintendents, clients/owners, inspectors, etc. to isolate problems and develop solutions to these problems. o Confer with management, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities. o Training and development of Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Apprentice Superintendents in all aspects of performance, including recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, termination, or hires. o Properly responding to any team member in violation of company policies and procedures. o Administer discipline as needed in a fair and consistent manner and report any disciplinary actions to

Human Resources Manager. o Accurate and timely reporting of expenses to the accounting department on a weekly basis. o Oversight of storage yard to maintain organization of materials and equipment, cleanliness and safety. o Direct supervision of 1 to 3 projects.

  • Safety: o Actively participate in Sargon’s Safety Committee, including but not limited to, planning safety stand downs, communicating with company insurance regarding safety planning, mitigation strategies, jobsite audits, coordinating required certification classes for our team. o Conducting regular safety meetings with employees to address specific work areas and conditions that require attention for compliance with Company and regulatory safety procedures. o Ensure Superintendents maintain a safe workplace. o Modeling Safety in all aspects of job.

  • 7-10 years’ experience in construction, preferably 2+ years in masonry or land development.

  • Proven work history showing growth in managerial roles, including the direct management of 5+ people.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • The ability to maintain performance and composure during high stress situations often outside your control, e.g., limited resources, time constraints, and unforeseen changes or problems.

Sargon Masonry Construction offers competitive compensation based on experience and skill level. This is a full-time role between $95,000 and $105,000 annual compensation, depending on candidate’s qualifications.
