This is a hybrid role – and not uncommon in steel shops. Salary Range = $50,000 - $70,000 (DOE)

Sargon is a family-owned company specializing in masonry, stone and steel construction. Sargon Steel is a full-service fabrication and erection company specializing in commercial fencing, park structures, automatic gates and many other various design-build metal work.

The Project Engineer role will directly support the Steel Project Managers and Steel General Manager in multiple capacities including, but not limited to, preparing shop drawings, financial reporting, procurement, and documentation. The Project Engineer will report directly to the Steel General Manager and work closely with the project management team and all Sargon Departments. o Maintain inventory records for all incoming material on site – listing by job, quantity, items.

 Stored Materials Process is owned by SDS2 Detailer / Project Engineer

 Copies of Pos, Copies of Bills of Lading, Tagging Material with proper job paint

color, adding note to all steel bundles with specs of items, taking pictures of

items received, labeling each picture by PO# and line # of what the picture

represents, sitting with Steel PM > 2 days before billing to put the “Stored

Material Package” together.

 Project Support

o Create project folder within twenty-four (24) hours of receiving new contract and move all

pertinent documents to project folder from the project bid folder (Russ)

o Attend project kick-off meetings with Steel Manager, Project Manager, and Estimator as time

permits

o Create project binder / books (1 for shop / 1 for field)

o Receive monthly billing schedule and create calendar reminders for each due date for project

manager (actual calendar reminder)

o Maintain Rental Equipment Log

 Daily review with Project Manager about location and timing of rental equipment in use

to reduce costs

 Timely “call off” of rental equipment no longer needed.

o Receive active rental equipment emails and distribute to project managers by (updated list for

Tues mtg)

o Prepare agenda and documents for weekly construction meeting, take & distribute meeting minutes

and follow through with the owner of each action item in conjunction with Project Manager Steel

General Manager

 Purchase Ordering

o Obtain three (3) quotes for all materials in consideration of material lead times, project

schedule, and costs (such as bulk ordering for multiple projects, preferred vendors, material

pricing, etc.)

o Must work closely with Project Manager to review Master Project Schedule and any project

schedule changes affecting material ordering.

o Obtain sign off by Project Manager and/or Steel General Manager on all orders prior to placing

orders.

o Maintain Master Purchase Order Log for all projects for cost tracking (in Viewpoint – 100% 3/1)

o Weekly submittal of approved batch invoices to Accounting Clerk with supporting

documentation within 24 hours of receipt and maintain directory of all approved invoices.

o Receive & review all incoming orders for accuracy (matching Purchase Orders to receivables to address any discrepancies at time of receipt)

 Coordinating with Project Manager / Shop Foreman to act as back up if you are not

there to receive order. The Steel General Manager will act as a secondary back up in the

event the Project Manager is unavailable.

o Order materials as necessary.

o Release of fabrication drawings as needed.

o Update shop foreman of any design changes that result in change orders.

 Safety

o Participate in Sargon Steel’s Safety Action Plan as well as coordinate with Sargon Safety Team members to incorporate company-wide safety initiatives into Sargon Steel

 Detailing

o Communicate with Project Manager to identify in-house detailing and sub-contracted detailing.

o Communicate with Project Manager to identify in-house detailing and sub-contracted detailing.

o Follow all Detailing projects and keep up to date files of submittals and release for fabrication

drawings.

o Produce and manage RFI’s as needed in a timely fashion.

o Create value engineering options for clients.

o Detail and produce submittal packages for approval. Scrub and re-submit as needed.

o Detail and produce release for fabrication and Erection drawings for both shop and field installation.

o Prepare shop drawings (Definition of shop drawing: drawing of each part required of the steel. This drawing will be used by the steel fabricator and includes, but is not limited to, member size, length, notches, position & holes diameter, welds and bolts).

o Read Structural & Architectural design drawings; use this information to create 2D and 3D models in SDS2. Draw erection plans, elevations & sections for field use.

o Draw details and sub materials for fabrication. Coordinate job requirements with project managers and subcontractors.

To Be Successful at This Role, You Will Need:

 Minimum 1-year SDS/2 Training and Experience required.

 Preferred 1 year of relevant experience in project or administrative work strongly preferred.

 Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities, ability to deliver high-quality, time-sensitive work

 Highly proficient in MS Office applications (including Outlook, Excel and Teams) and SDS/2 Detailing

Software

 Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers as well as vendors, subcontractors and in many instances, clients.

 Commitment to communicate with all members of the Sargon Team. Confidence to participate in team meetings, submit proposals, and represent the Sargon Core Values in all duties.

 Must have integrity and the ability to discuss issues openly and honestly with your team and clients.

 Strong written and verbal presentation skills
